Once again 9 August is just around the corner and it’s time for us to wish Singapore a happy 49th Birthday! What better way to do it than paint the town red (and white).
Now if you haven’t filled your calendar yet, here are a few things you can do to celebrate our nation’s birthday.
[divider]National Day Parade (NDP)[/divider]
Come 9 August, the Float@Marina Bay is set to be awash in a sea of red and white. NDP 2014 celebrates our people who have the will to stand up for our independence, and who care for each other. Together, we have built Singapore: a good home to raise our children, and where we truly belong. This is the spirit that is captured in this year’s theme, “Our People, Our Home”, which also calls on Singaporeans to come together to create a better future for Singapore.
Get together and sing-along to NDP favorites such as ‘Home’, ‘Stand Up for Singapore’ and the evergreen ‘One People, One Nation, One Singapore’. You’ll also get the change to see our paratroopers in action as they drop in and thrill the crowd. Of course, no National Day Parade is ever complete without a spectacular fireworks display.
For more information, visit the NDP website.
[divider]Witness a Guiness World Record in the making[/divider]
Be a part of history this National Day when 160 DJs will come together to attempt to break the Guiness World Record for the most number of disc jockey performances at one location. The attempt will be held at the Marina Barrage as part of the National Day carnival.
The DJs will play one song each and transition from one DJ to the next until the record is broken. An official Guinness World Record adjudicator from London will be overseeing the attempt.
The festivities will run from 11am to midnight with stuff for the whole family in the form of food stalls, games, activities and a live screening of the National Day Parade. The barrage will also be the perfect location to take in the fireworks display.
If you still haven’t had your fill, then stay on for the after party and groove the night away.
