Do you long for a time of mythical creatures, of warlords and kings? Have you ever wondered if mystical creatures really do exist? No, no, this isn’t another LARPing article… (but if you haven’t tried that, what’s wrong with you?!)
Well, anyway, the answer is “yes.” And you don’t have to look further than the Singapore River Safari where mermaids have come to life.
The River Safari is having a special Halloween event for the whole family called Safari Boo. They have activities for all among the amazing animals and aquatic life on display. The real highlight, however, of the event is Mermaid show.
A 15-20 minute show consisting of 4 real life mermaids doing an underwater synchronised routine. The tricks they are able to do are absolutely amazing. With a tank that’s about 9 meters deep, it takes some real skill and athleticism to be able to complete the manoeuvres, let alone with such beauty and grace.
These mermaids are absolutely breathtaking. The Mermaid with the blue tail and golden top even came up to the glass and blew me a kiss. She was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
Now, beyond all the glitz and mysticism of mythical creatures was something that really made me a fan of this event. At the media preview they had invited a few families from the Singapore Cancer Society to enjoy the festivities. Seeing the children’s eyes light up when the mermaids swam by was a special sight indeed. It reminded me of when I was a kid and everything was real and magical. When dragons and knights were real. Where good triumphed over evil. I have to say that was an amazing thing for the River Safari to do.
