[Singapore] ICC Brings Football in the City

With seven weeks to go before the arrival of Chelsea FC, FC Bayern and FC Internazionale for the highly anticipated 2017 International Champions Cup (ICC) Singapore, Catalyst Media Group (CMG) today announced Football In The City; a series of activities catering to all football fans, regardless of age and club allegiance.

Fans can look forward to various thematic engagement events, family-friendly carnivals, appearances by Club legends and LIVE screenings of other ICC matches at the two iconic lifestyle and entertainment venues in the months of June and July. ICC Singapore ticket holders will also enjoy special privileges at both venues in the lead up to the tournament.

Football In The City kicks off on 11 June with a family carnival at Clarke Quay. A key member of FC Bayern’s youth coaching team will conduct three 30-minute football clinics from 11am to 12.30pm and give the public a glimpse of the drills that are integral to the German champions’ training regime. The clinics are free and opened to children aged 6 – 12 on a first come first served basis.

Other than the football clinic, other activities available for the entire family include interactive games, special complimentary ICC stickers and temporary tattoos for littles ones. Fans will be entertained by a display of freestyle football by SG Tekkers and can pick up some tips and tricks from the free coaching session offered by SG Tekkers. Photo booths offering fun photo opportunities will ensure the good times are captured, while FC Bayern’s club mascot, Berni, will pose for selfies and hand out high-fives.

“The 2017 International Champions Cup Singapore is set to light up the city in July when some of the marquee names of European football come to town. We will undoubtedly witness some of the best football skills at the National Stadium, but we believe the excitement and buzz should not be confined to the pitch. The series of activities in CHIJMES and Clarke Quay is an extension of the tournament, and it ensures that the community gets to enjoy the benefits of the city hosting this world-class tournament,” said Mr Patrick Murphy, Chairman and President, Catalyst Media Group.

The ICC Singapore Trophy will be unveiled on Sunday and be on display at various Football In The City activities in the next few weeks, before it makes its final journey to the National Stadium. FC Bayern will also showcase their Bundesliga trophy, and fans can purchase their ICC Singapore tickets at the special pop-up ticketing counter at the carnival to ensure they do not miss out on any of the action in July.

Over at CHIJMES, football-starved fans can look forward to LIVE telecasts of quality football match-ups featuring top European teams such as Arsenal FC, Manchester United FC and Manchester City FC when the global series of ICC matches kicks off in July. Patrons will be able to enjoy the return of football to their screens along with exclusive happy hour deals by participating merchants.

Clarke Quay will also be home to fans of Chelsea FC and FC Internazionale as both Clubs “take over” the venue on selected evenings during the week of the tournament, while CHIJMES is the venue to be for fans of FC Bayern.

Said Ms Melissa Ow, Deputy Chief Executive, Singapore Tourism Board: “With its all-round offerings, Football in the City will enhance the fan experience surrounding the ICC, strengthening the proposition of the tournament to football fans and leisure visitors. This will incentivise visitors from Southeast Asia and beyond to catch the region-exclusive ICC in Singapore and bolster Singapore’s position as a vibrant regional sports and entertainment hub.”

Scheduled to take place at the National Stadium July 25 – 29, the ICC Singapore will feature Chelsea FC, FC Bayern and FC Internazionale in a round-robin three-match tournament. The fixtures in July will mark the first time top-flight European teams play each other in Singapore, which is the only country in Southeast Asia to host a leg of the annual tournament for the next four years (2017 – 2020).

Tickets to International Champions Cup (ICC) Singapore are priced at $25 (child) and $40 (adult) and available for purchase at www.sportshubtix.sg, the Sports Hub Box Office as well as at all Singapore Post outlets.
