A prequel to the Transformers movies that have come before, Bumblebee is on the run in the year 1987 and finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town.
Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug… yes, a yellow VW bug!
Gone are the ‘modern’ character models, BUMBLEBEE looks like a movie that long-time fans can finally get behind. The new trailers give us a look at Generation 1 (G1) versions of Optimus Prime, Starscream, Soundwave, Shockwave and yes, we get to see Cybertron.
Directed by Travis Knight of KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS, here’s hoping that Knight can bring some of that artistry to a waning franchise that (especially) lifelong fans find hard to get behind.
