Hostels, typically associated with communal living and the “backpacker” lifestyle, might not appeal to everyone. Lub D Koh Samui Chaweng Beach blends the social aspect of hostels, with the comfort and amenities of hotels, to provide a truly memorable experience.

Lub D Koh Samui sits right on the beach and in the middle of the Chaweng Beach nightlife hotspot in Koh Samui. Only 10 minutes away from the airport it is extremely accessible and convenient to get to.

As you walk into the compound, made up of 3 main buildings that house both typical hostel dormitories and private rooms, the first thing that gets your attention is how bright, youthful and clean the whole place is – throughout my stay I realized that this was totally by design and not just a one-off.

Check-in is a breeze and no different from what you would expect from any modern hotel with a well furnished waiting area – not that I needed to use it.

Rooms designed with the modern traveler in mind.

While I do love the communal aspect of hostel living, I definitely prefer a private space that I can retreat to once the days facilities are done – as such I chose to stay in one of the private rooms.

Upon entering the room, it was picture perfect – almost an exact replica of what you see on the hotel website… and more that you don’t. Clean and spotless, the room has enough space and well thought out.

Picture perfect rooms immediately set your mind at ease

One of the things that established chains and older hotels tend to struggle with are updating their existing rooms to catch up with the times.

Only 4 years old, Lub D Koh Samui is perfect for the modern traveler. Two spacious bedside tables provide enough space to place all the things you’d want within reach as you rest.

The one feature that I truly appreciate are the sockets and USB charge points built into the headboard that also acts as a shelf.

No shortage of things to do.

Typically I’d set up my room and head out to explore the surrounding neighborhood. However, with 2 pools (one right at the beachfront), 2 activity areas with table tennis, a pool table, air hockey table, giant Jenga and other games, I found myself spending the whole day within the compound itself with no real idea what else the city had in store. I did not want to leave.

With a host of activities daily, it’s extremely easy to meet new friends.

As you walk into the compound, a sign reads “A simple hello can lead to a million things”. It is all too true at Lub D Koh Samui. With the activities available and daily parties at the Tropics Bar – making friends was extremely easy. You’re basically in an area where like-minded people, looking to relax, chill and socialize are and the entire set-up facilitates the process.

It is the people that make it happen.

Throughout the stay you realize that it is really the staff that make things happen. Extremely friendly and approachable, they make the entire social resort concept happen.

From providing exceptional customer service to their dedication in maintaining the upkeep of the place – someone is always cleaning something, there is no doubt that the people and management take great pride in the work that they do and the experience that they want to stick when you leave.

At USD200 for a four night stay, it was already an attractive option. They entire package and experience is well worth more.

Neither a hotel or a hostel, Lub D Koh Samui is truly a Social Resort.

With Lub D properties in Phuket, Bangkok and Makati (Philippines), Lub D has easily climbed to the top of my list when choosing accomodation – maybe the next location as well. Phuket maybe?
