Larian Studios has announced that Baldur’s Gate 3, the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved franchise, will be released earlier than expected.
The PC version of the game is set to launch on August 3rd, nearly a month ahead of its original release date. Meanwhile, PlayStation 5 players will be able to embark on their epic adventure on September 6th, just a week later than the previously announced date of August 31st.
Larian Studios revealed that they have achieved an impressive 60 frames per second (fps) on the PlayStation 5, a remarkable feat considering the scale and depth that Baldur’s Gate 3 aims to achieve.
The game boasts over 170 hours of cinematics, surpassing the length of the entire Game of Thrones series, and features dialogue that exceeds the combined word count of all three Lord of the Rings novels.
With its immersive multiplayer and split-screen co-op capabilities, Baldur’s Gate 3 brings the world of Dungeons & Dragons to life on an unprecedented scale, surpassing the size of their previous game, Divinity: Original Sin 2, by four times.
In a recent community update, Larian Studios provided an abundance of long-awaited details about the content of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Players can expect a vast array of playable races, classes, and companions, as well as an extensive character customization system. The scale of the game is truly staggering, as highlighted by some jaw-dropping statistics shared by Larian:
- The script for Baldur’s Gate 3 contains over 2 million words, surpassing the combined word count of all three Lord of the Rings books.
- With over 170 hours of cinematics, Baldur’s Gate 3 boasts double the length of every season of Game of Thrones combined.
- Players can choose from 7 playable protagonists, each with their own unique story, personality, desires, and objectives. Additionally, the game offers an exceptional Character Creation system for those who prefer to create their own custom characters.
- The game features 11 playable races and 31 subraces, with various body types to choose from.
- Baldur’s Gate 3 offers 12 classes and 46 subclasses, providing an expansive range of options compared to the 10 “schools of spells” in Divinity: Original Sin 2.
- With over 600 spells and actions (excluding upcasts), the game offers a wealth of choices for players, far surpassing the 225 player spells and actions available in Divinity: Original Sin 2.
“We set out to make a game that would reward player creativity and truly bring D&D to life in a cinematic way that explores the breadth and depth RPGs can offer,” said CEO and Creative Director Swen Vincke.
“Baldur’s Gate 3 has become an astronomical game that never fails to surprise, and I’m super proud of the team. We couldn’t have done this without our Early Access community, but it’s crazy to think that all this time they experienced less than a quarter of what BG3 has to offer.”
“I cannot wait to hear the stories our players will tell when the full game releases. It’s time to gather your party.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 launches on PC on August 3rd and PlayStation 5 on September 6th.
