Not too long ago, Logitech announced the launch of the G310 Atlas Dawn Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, an ultra-light keyboard featuring Logitech’s exclusive Romer-GTM mechanical switches. Since then I’ve been giving it a go and I have to say, I’m quite impressed.
The Logitech G310 features the exclusive Romer-G mechanical switches – the same ones you get from the G910 Orion Spark. While Logitech claims that the Romer-Gs register your key presses up to 25 percent faster than competing mechanical switches, the first thing you’ll notice about the concave switches is the similarly beveled keys that come with it.
I’m one of those people that believes in using my keyboard for everything – from gaming to typing up reports… or this review. Prior to the G310, my mainstay was the Razer Deathstalker – a keyboard that I just never quite managed to get into… especially when I’m typing… even during chat. With the G310 Atlas Dawn, the improvement was immediately noticeable. While my fingers didn’t exactly fly across the board, the beveled keys went a long way to guiding my fingers like cookie batter into little cups (I have pudgy fingers).
The keyboard features a clear blue central backlighting that makes finding the right keys much easier in the dark, and on the eyes. Controlling the brightness of the backlight is extremely easy with the control button located at the top.
Now to the compact bit. If space is an issue, the G310 Atlas Dawn is designed to take up very little. Of course, this also means that you have to do without the number pad (Ten Key Less) and macro keys. This, does however allow you to game easily on a very small space which makes it perfect for LAN parties.
I particularly like the build quality of the G310. I’m not the most careful when carrying stuff around, I’ve the tendency to bump and drop things… be it keyboards, watches or babies. While I don’t think much can survive my wrath after the seventh total party kill just because the damn fool didn’t know that shiny burning circles under your feet kills you, the Atlas Dawn does stand up to some key bashing and slamming… or as an improvised weapon – keyboard warrior for realz.
Finally, the keyboard comes with a handy dock for your mobile when using the Logitech Arx Control – a free mobile app for iOS or Android that adds improved second screen capability. Arx Control works with Logitech Gaming Software and allows your mobile device to display in-game information, vital system statistics and more. You can just dock your phone or tablet on the keyboard itself without the use of a separate stand.
All in all, the G310 Atlas Dawn Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard isn’t just easy to carry around, it’s good enough to be your mainstay as well.
