The ASUS ZenWiFi XD6 consists of a pair of ASUS AX5400 WiFi 6 routers, featuring unique technologies that are designed to give you superfast, reliable and secure WiFi connections throughout your home.
WIFI 6 is the new consumer standard for wireless data transmission that provides better connectivity, up to 40% faster network speeds compared to WIFI 5, and support for multiple devices running on one network at the same time.
With more and more smart devices introduced within your home, a WiFi 6 router might be worth considering. Especially if they’re always on.
The ASUS ZenWiFi XD6 looks very modern, sophisticated and will easily fit within most home designs. Predominantly white, with a small LED indicator on the bottom, it is not going to be an eyesore. Especially when the best location to place your router for optimal connectivity might also be one of the most visible.
Setting up the ZenWiFi XD6 is extremely easy with the ASUS Router app. Just follow the instructions and synch. Either unit can be used as the main router or the extender node. Once ready, the two units should be able to provide coverage up to 5,400 sq.ft., which should be enough for most apartments and condos.
You have the option to combine the 2.4Ghz (longer range) and 5Ghz (faster) bands into one network that the router will then switch to the appropriate band. I am not the biggest fan of this particular technology and find that it still has a way to go before the switching is optimal. We kept the two bands separate for our speed tests.
The ZenWiFi XD6 is supposed to be able to provide a total bandwidth of up to 5,400 Mbps. That might not necessarily be the case in a real-life home setting with multiple devices connected at once. For our tests, we ran speedtest by Ookla on an iPhone 12 Pro on the 5Ghz connection.
The network was stacked to simulate a typical home environment that included two laptops, one PC, two iPads, a Google Home Nest, one Sonos Beam soundbar, home monitoring cameras (Arlo Ultra, Essential Indoor Camera and Essential Video Doorbell), PlayStation 5, a PRISM+ Q75 Android TV streaming Netflix and two other mobile phones in addition to the iPhone the test was conducted on.
In the same room, we clocked speeds of 614 Mbps (download) and 471 Mbps (upload). As we moved a room away, speeds dropped to 370 Mbps and 265 Mbps respectively. As we moved two rooms away, placing two walls between the device and both units, we still got very decent speeds of 110 Mbps (download) and 191 Mbps (upload).
The ZenWiFi XD6 managed to keep the signal strong and constant as we continued to put more (concrete) walls between us. It was also strong enough to continue streaming 4K UHD content on a Smart TV in another room wirelessly without any issues.
An added bonus each ZenWiFi XD6 unit has three LAN ports available that further expands connectivity options.
Available at SGD 499 (on the official ASUS Lazada store), the ZenWiFi XD6 is competitively priced, and also comes with AiProtection Pro with Advanced Parental Controls, which is free for life. It gives you peace of mind and allows you to manage your network via the mobile app.
The ZenWiFi XD6 is a great option for your smart home needs providing amazing coverage and very stable connections at a good speed.
