Looking for tender, crispy and maybe a little spicy chicken? Well, you can stop looking, ’cause Chix Hot Chicken’s got you covered!

Located close to Arab Street, this year old establishment serves up classic Southern comfort food with a taste of Singapore in a fast-casual restaurant setting.

Chix Hot Chicken focuses on a chicken heavy menu with minimal sides, but beefed up with desserts and homemade milkshakes. Despite the relatively small menu, it can actually be attributed to what makes the food so good, each item more or less feels like a carefully curated dish ensuring that customers are getting what they pay for and more.

Having tried most of the items on their menu, I was really glad that almost nothing was a let down. I really enjoyed the Soul Slider, a McSpicy like slider with a chicken patty that was fried to crispy perfection.

Their mainstay, the Nashville Hot Chicken was also nicely fried and not too dry and the marinade itself was delicious.  Topping these all is The Melt! A deep fried sandwich oozing with cheese in the center, this artery clogging goodness is worth every bite.

During the tasting, I also tried the varying levels of spiciness you can choose for the Nashville Hot Chicken. From Mild, to Medium, to Hot, and finally Insane, the spiciness is still exponentially incremental.

Personally. I would say Mild and Medium are negligible in terms of spiciness but that could also be because I generally like spicy food. Hot, however, really turns it up and, unless dared to, Insane is something you should probably stay clear of. That said, as the marinades for the chicken are all dry rubs, the spice doesn’t quite pierce your mouth as badly as wet rubs would. This allows you to continue enjoying the taste of the chicken instead of succumbing to the face-numbing heat that other hot wings impose.

Lastly: the milkshakes! Variety is no issue with their three flavours: Vanilla, Milo and, my personal favourite, Gula Melaka. The crew’s ensured the right thickness and sweetness, spending as much time on the milkshakes as they have on the chicken. You can really taste the effort put into making it feel like a true American milkshake. The results especially pay off when the other two flavours satisfy the Singaporean palate. They definitely nailed it.

Overall, Chix Hot Chicken is definitely a place I’d like to go back to. From their generous portions of delicious southern food to their very reasonable price point, it’s definitely worth the visit.

And, the vegetarian options are truly good! The QUORN burger honestly tastes like a McChicken and I didn’t quite mind the second bite. Also the food is Muslim friendly although it isn’t yet Halal certified.

I’d highly recommend heading down to Chix if y’all having a hankering for some Southern Fried Chicken!
