“Come on in!” a familiar cry for all who play Hearthstone, Blizzard’s highly addictive multi-platform trading card game. Finally some new heroes have answered the call (in the latest patch) and it’s time to say hello to some new faces – Magni (Warrior), Medivh (Mage) and Alleria Windrunner (Hunter).
Each hero features an animated portrait, a unique animated version of that classes’ existing hero power, a special ‘hero tray’, all new emotes, cool match start animations, and a themed card back. However, that’s where it ends. The new heroes provide no real edge (albeit a psychological one) in game. The new heroes are completely aesthetic and can only be purchased in the in-app store for SGD 12.98. Which didn’t stop me from trading Jaina Proudmoore in for my shiny new Medivh – it had nothing to do with the fact that I think he looks like me… that would be narcissistic.
When there are new additions to any group, especially one as volatile as this, some friction is expected… and there’s nothing like a good ol’ fashioned Tavern Brawl – hold my mug while I punch you in the face!
Tavern Brawls will pit you head to head versus another player using exciting and unique rules. One week might feature preset decks, while another week could have you crafting a brand new Tavern Brawl deck following specific guidelines, while others might offer buffs to specific minion types.
However, Tavern Brawl only unlocks for players who have at least one Hero at level 20 (i.e. you need to put in some game time if you wanna brawl). Take note though, Tavern Brawls will only be available according to the following schedule each week:
Europe: Opens Wed 05:00 PM CEST and closes Mon 6:00 AM CEST
Americas: Opens Wed 10:00 AM PDT and closes Mon 3:00 AM PDT
Taiwan/China: Opens Thurs 03:00 AM CST and closes Mon 6:00 AM CST
Korea: Opens Thurs 04:00 AM KST and closes Mon 7:00 AM KST
At the publishing of this article, the Tavern is yet to open. But I cant wait to Brawl.
