Wizards of the Coast has announced its newest addition to the Magic: The Gathering universe—Wilds of Eldraine—scheduled for tabletop release on September 8, 2023. This set will feature a return to the beloved realm of Eldraine, complete with its magical storybook characters and fairy tale elements, albeit with an MTG twist.
As players navigate the set’s intricate storyline, they will encounter the citizens of Eldraine plagued by a Wicked Slumber, a curse initially intended to protect the realm from invasion. A host of familiar and new characters such as Kellan, the Fae-Blooded, Eriette of the Charmed Apple, and the iconic Syr Ginger will guide players through the magical world as they seek to lift the realm’s everlasting nightmare.
The set introduces a brand-new mechanic called “Roles,” allowing players to enchant creatures with archetypes like Monster or Sorcerer that offer additional abilities and power-ups.
The mechanic of “Bargain” also makes its debut, allowing players to make sacrifices for greater in-game advantages. Fan-favorite mechanics like “Adventures” from Throne of Eldraine and “Sagas” are making a return, adding a storytelling element to the gameplay.
Wizards Play Network (WPN) Stores in Singapore will host an Open House from September 8-10, 2023, offering Starter Kits and exclusive promo cards to new and veteran players.
Additionally, Wizards of the Coast APAC has launched a mini-AR game called “The Castle of Ashiok,” where players can take on challenges themed around Ashiok, one of the main antagonists of the set. The game can be accessed via an Instagram AR Filter.
Every Wilds of Eldraine booster will contain at least one Enchanting Tales card—a reprint of an iconic Enchantment card from Magic’s history. Collectors can also look forward to 11 new Borderless Storybook cards and 20 rare and mythic Enchanting Tales cards reimagined in Anime style, complete with a unique Confetti Foil Laminate treatment.
The set offers a variety of products, including Draft Boosters, Set Boosters, Collector Boosters, Commander Decks, Prerelease Packs, Bundles, and a new Starter Kit.
As Magic: The Gathering continues to evolve and expand, Wilds of Eldraine promises a blend of nostalgia and innovation, ensuring that both new and experienced players can find their fairy tale ending—or a new beginning—in this latest set.
