The job of being a film critic is often a misunderstood one. From being accused of being corporate shills sponsored by studios (oh, how we wish!) to being over glorified fans, the process behind the profession is often misunderstood… or not considered at all.
Debuting their Spotlight Singapura series of talks and panels, The Fandom Menace will be fielding a conversation with local film critic Jedd Jong at The Hive Lavender on the 24th of April from 7 to 9pm. Hosted by justsaying.ASIA’s very own sub-editor Ryan Mennen, the Movie & You will be an intimate look at the process behind Jedd Jong’s profession–one that has existed on multiple platforms from Singapore’s only movie review magazine F***, to inSing, and Kiss 92, and now Popcorn.
The session will also allow enthusiasts and aspiring critics the opportunity to pick his brains on what it takes to be a film critic, and perhaps answer the greatest question of all time: how do film critics still enjoy movies?
Or, even more pressingly, what did he think of Avengers: Endgame? (He’s watching it on the 23rd of April, so we invite you squeeze any information out of him… if you can!)
In addition to his extensive writings, Jong’s experience includes interviews with international film celebrities such as director Darren Aronofsky, actresses Charlize Theron and Emma Stone, and Hollywood’s nicest human being (other than Keanu) Tom Hanks.
