Committed to harnessing the power of clothing and giving back to the community, UNIQLO has teamed up with local social service agency HawkerHeroes.sg to distribute 14,000 AIRism masks to local hawkers of all kinds, starting last month.
Local hawkers are facing new challenges as they sustain their livelihoods amid the ever-changing COVID-19 situation. The donation hopes to help local hawkers navigate their day with greater comfort and ease while staying safe.
The AIRism masks employ a triple-layer structure that enhances its protection and performance. The centre of the mask includes a high-performance, non-woven filter that delivers a bacterial filtration efficiency of 99%, blocking airborne droplets, particulates carrying bacteria, and pollen.
Sandwiching the filter is the smooth AIRism fabric on the first layer and a highly breathable mesh on the third layer. In addition, the mask has UV protection of UPF50+ to block out 90% of UV rays, and is convenient for all wearers since it is machine washable with regular household detergent.
Shoppers can also expect a slew of in-store, hawker-related initiatives, including a hawker-inspired augmented reality mural at ION Orchard by local artist 8EyedSpud and MeshMinds and exhibition displays across UNIQLO Town stores that spotlight interesting facts about Hawker Culture.
Through these initiatives, UNIQLO hopes to welcome Singaporeans in celebrating this hallmark of local culture and preserve it for the generations to come.
Shoppers can look forward to a hawker-inspired augmented reality mural at ION Orchard by local artist 8EyedSpud and MeshMinds, where they can unlock an interactive face filter on Instagram and a groovy background melody after scanning the AR mural.
The UTme! T-shirt customisation service at Orchard Central will also allow shoppers to create one-of-a-kind designs by printing elements of the mural on UNIQLO’s iconic T-shirts, encouraging all to freely express their admiration for our local food.
Each UNIQLO Town store will sport a distinctive showcase. The stores at Plaza Singapura and Orchard Central will kickstart a series of sustainability-related pop-up showcases, while Orchard Central will have one highlighting interesting facts about Hawker Culture.
