UNIQLO has announced the launch of an exclusive UT (UNIQLO T-shirt) collection in honour of the KAWS + Warhol exhibition currently on display at The Andy Warhol Museum in the United States.
The collection, which will also be available globally, is set to hit UNIQLO stores and the brand’s online platform, uniqlo.com/sg, on Friday, August 23rd.
This unique collaboration merges the artistic worlds of Andy Warhol, a pivotal figure in 20th-century art, and KAWS, a contemporary art leader known for his distinctive characters.
The collection offers fans a chance to engage with the art of these two icons through wearable pieces that blend their signature styles.
The KAWS + Warhol UT Collection, created in collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, includes many items beyond the classic T-shirts.
The capsule features sweatshirts, coach jackets, socks, tote bags, and even a children’s lineup, ensuring that art enthusiasts of all ages can enjoy the fusion of Warhol’s iconic imagery and KAWS’s beloved characters. Notably, select pieces from the collection will also be available at the exhibition.
In addition to the apparel, UNIQLO will exclusively offer an art book dedicated to the KAWS + Warhol exhibition, which will be available in Singapore stores and online before its general release.
This comprehensive book showcases the art of both KAWS and Warhol, providing fresh perspectives on their work through comparisons, interviews, and essays by art historians and curators. The book also includes stunning installation views from the exhibition.
Customers who purchase the art book from UNIQLO will receive a limited-edition shoulder bag as a special gift. Furthermore, UNIQLO is launching a social media campaign where participants can win an autographed copy of the book by KAWS himself.
As part of the launch, UNIQLO stores worldwide will feature a grand display of KAWS’s iconic “COMPANION” sculpture alongside reproductions of Warhol’s artwork, bringing the exhibition experience to life for customers around the globe.
KAWS expressed his excitement about the collaboration, saying, “I am humbled to have the opportunity to show my work alongside Andy Warhol, a visionary whose art continues to inspire generations. This collection with UNIQLO mirrors how our work is displayed side-by-side in the exhibition.”
Michael Dayton Hermann, Director of Licensing, Marketing, and Sales at The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, added, “The Foundation is thrilled to celebrate Warhol’s enduring influence through this dynamic collaboration with KAWS and UNIQLO.”
Patrick Moore, the former Director of The Andy Warhol Museum and Curator of the KAWS + Warhol exhibition noted, “UNIQLO’s role in this collaboration bridges the gap between commercial and fine art, extending the exhibition’s reach to a global audience.”
The KAWS + Warhol UT Collection and art book will be available from August 23, 2024, at all UNIQLO stores and online.
